My life at the moment – 3.23.2019 – 3.30.2019

My life at the moment - family visits, shopping days, downtown orlando, county fairs, and quitting jobs.

Hey there, long time no see. I’ve been pretty busy this month so I thought it’d be nice to catch up real quick! This past week, I had my aunt in town staying with us. All of my family lives out of state, mostly in Pennsylvania, so it’s pretty rare we get to see any of them. Especially since not only can my brother and I not travel long distances, but nobody in my family has an accessible home anyway. So, for the past week, she’s been staying with us thanks to a killer deal on flights.

Here’s what we’ve been up to!

On Sunday, we headed to Orlando for the Lake Eola farmers market. I’ve mentioned on here before, but Lake Eola is one of my very favorite places to spend a day. The lake is fully surrounded by sidewalk and paved pathways, making it super easy for my wheelchair to get around. It’s absolutely beautiful there, too. Sitting by the water overlooking the city and having a picnic is an ideal day for me. There are tons of events that happen at Lake Eola, too, and plenty of little restaurants to check out as well. Yep, I love it.

So we went there on our first full day together. My friend Lexi was able to tag along, too! The farmers market is pretty big, and there are tons of different venders to check out. From fresh produce, to cute clothes, to animal rescue groups. It was sunny and in the 70’s, which made for a really nice afternoon to spend time with each other.

The next day, we headed to downtown Sanford after I got out of work.

Downtown is a cute little area, although it’s not the most accessible place. A lot of the buildings are historic, which means they’re absolutely not ADA compliant. It’s a lot of antique shops, and they’re so small that I usually just wait outside because I know my wheelchair won’t fit. That’s if there’s not a step to get inside, which most of them have anyway.

There are a few that I could wander through, like a cute used bookstore and a marshmallow cafe. I knew going into the day that I’d spend a good chunk of the afternoon waiting for my mom and aunt to finish going through shops, so I just made the most of the nice weather. After shopping, we headed over to the riverwalk which is much more accessible for me. It’s a nicely paved trail along the river, and I don’t go often but I do enjoy it when we make it over there!

Most of my week was just trying to get through my shifts and being super tired.

But on Thursday my friend Sam was able to come over and we all went to the fair. Granted, we went at like 4 pm so it was pretty dead, but I was solely there for funnel cake and cute photo ops. I truly wouldn’t get on those rides even if they were accessible, just give me greasy junk food covered in sugar and I’m happy.

Seeing my aunt was nice and it’s been a year since we saw her last, so I’m glad my mom had a chance to spend some time with her sister. While that was happening, though, I was going through some pretty big life changes. If you follow me on Instagram, you might already know, but if not – I quit my job! Our visit happened to fall on my last week at the office, so it was definitely an exciting but stressful time for me.

I’ll be talking about it more soon, but I’ve known for quite a while that it just wasn’t working out for me anymore. Something needed to change, and somehow I’ve managed to land a new gig working from home! I start in a few days and I can’t wait to see how things go. Obviously I’ll keep you all updated, too.

What I’m loving right now:

My new HP All In One computer

My beloved macbook pro is still kicking, but much slower than when I first brought it home 7 years ago. The rainbow wheel is my new bud that shows up every 10 minutes. I figured I’d be replacing my laptop sooner or later anyway, so I might as well bite the bullet and get a brand new setup for my new job. I couldn’t afford to get another mac, but so far I’m loving my new computer – even though I do hate windows.

Good Girls

My mom and I recently started watching this show and we’re officially hooked. It’s about three women who rob a grocery store and the chaos of the aftermath. I’ve loved Mae Whitman since I saw her in Parenthood and Manny Montanna makes me swoon. The first season is on Netflix and season 2 just started and it’s on Hulu if you want to catch up!

The few weeks of Spring weather

Florida doesn’t really have the change of seasons. We just have heat with an occasional few weeks of cold or slightly less hot. Right now we’re in the slightly less hot blip and we’re getting a few weeks of 70’s. It won’t last long, but I’m living for it while it’s here. I love being able to leave the door to our patio open and not instantly sweating when I go outside. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited for summer, but our short few weeks of Spring is incredible.

That was my week, how was yours?
