7 Books I’m dying to read!
Happy Sunday, friends!
As I’m writing this, I’m sitting by my big sunny window and all I can think of is how much I miss reading. I love settling in with a comfy blanket and a good book, but I never seem to actually make the time to do that. Ever. There’s always an excuse – I need to write, I want to paint, there’s a really good tv show on right now, I’m too tired, etc etc etc.
Problem is, I actively feel bad about not reading more. Like, guilty, sad, and regretful bad. It’s 1000% my own fault, too! Sometimes it can be really hard for no good reason to make the time to do the things you want to do. I only read like one book last year, and it’s already March and I’ve again, only read one book. I’m determined to do better in 2018, so here are just a few of the books I’m stoked to read!
1. Reasons to Stay Alive – Matt Haig
I fell in love with Matt Haig’s writing after I tore through his novel The Humans. Reasons to Stay Alive is all about mental health and his personal experiences, and I’ve heard nothing but good things so I can’t wait to read it.
2. How to Stop Time – Matt Haig
Continuing right along with the Matt Haig love, I can’t wait to read his new novel! I don’t know much about it, to be honest, other than it’s a love story about a man who can live for centuries. Basically, I want to read every book by Haig, so it’s happening this year!
3. On the Other Side – Carrie Hope Fletcher
This has been on my list for so long now. Carrie is one of my favorites on Youtube, and she’s just this bright ball of positivity and unbelievable talent. On the Other Side has such an interesting concept, being about a woman who dies and then must go through her life and let go of her burdens before she can cross over. I’m so excited to finally give this one a go.
4. A Wrinkle in Time – Madeleine L’Engle
I mean, this is probably on a ton of lists right now, but I’m so excited to finally read this! I never had to when I was in school, so I sort of forgot about it until I saw the movie trailer. Now, I basically have no choice! I’m going to wait until after I see the movie though because the book is always better. Might as well save the best for last!
5. The Handmaids Tale – Magaret Atwood
Last year, I was obsessed with the Hulu series based on the book. I know I know, me and everyone else on the planet. I even got the book for $2 on my kindle, I just never got around to reading it! Soon. It’s happening.
6. Artemis – Andy Weir
Okay, I’m not a space person. Space literally terrifies me. The whole concept of it, movies, pictures, all of it. I don’t know why, but it just makes me anxious. A couple years back, my friend Lexi and I did a snail mail book trade and she sent me The Martian. I devoured that book in like a day and a half, which is saying something considering it’s literally about a man stranded in space. Naturally, I have to do it again for Weir’s new novel – Artemis!
7. Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro
I’ve had this on my list for years, and I’ve never gotten around to it. I’ve heard so much about this book and how it’ll destroy you and, well… I love me some angsty fiction.
